Freedom
Posted May 5, 2011 by Cindy
In The Netherlands, May 5th is known as Day of Freedom. We celebrate the liberation of our country at the end of World War II. Sixty five years later, people are still free—they can be openly Jewish, gipsy or gay, and coming together at publicly announced places wearing diapers and playing with stuffed animals is no more difficult than visiting a pop concert.

Without privacy, freedom is doomed. People need to be able to express themselves both online and offline without every aspect of their presence being monitored—and stored for years. Protest when your government tries to convince you that video surveillance and Internet traffic monitoring are needed in order to be secure. Privacy and security and not contractictions, they often go hand in hand. Don't give away your human rights just because some man of woman in a suit says you need to in order to get proper protection.

You can't be free without trusting people to some extend; don't let fear for your neighbor take over your life.
